So after yesterday's post about the music I was listening to this past week, it reminded me of how awesome Amy Winehouse is. Only second to her powerful voice and captivating music is her irreplaceable style.
She obviously embodied the sixties throwbacks with pinup styles. Her teeny-tiny dresses were sometimes black and understated, sometimes with bold patterns. Leopard print, plaid, polka-dots, and gingham made repeat appearances.
And she always had on a push-up bra.
Hair down to her waist, bustier tops, sky-high platform pumps. Amy was extreme. Paired with her raspy, crooning voice, she had a style that was all her own.
To be perfectly honest, I have no idea how she did her beehive. What was in it? Was it stuffed? What products did she use? What held it up? Frankly, I don't even know if it was actually real.
Another unmistakable element of her look was her extreme winged eyeliner and big false eyelashes. No one else could pull it off like Winehouse did. Let's be honest, she was tough. Her look was hard. She was a tiny woman, but with her exaggerated style, men's undershirts, bright red bras, and chunky, bold accessories, she looked like someone you wouldn't wanna mess with.
She complimented her pinup girl motif with hair accessories, mostly tied-up bow headbands or big red flowers, as well as nautical themes.
I really loved that she was a fan of mixing patterns too.
Her vintage-style tattoos only enhanced her overall look, pinup girls, a horseshoe, and a heart with a banner added to the vintage.
Say what you want, there's no denying how beautiful she was. her look may have not been extremely conventional, but in my opinion, she was interesting and gorgeous.
Her untimely death was a tragedy, and she was ultimately a troubled young woman who had trouble adjusting to her new-found fame and celebrity status. She was simply trying to make music, and was not equipped to handle the limelight. Just like her extreme style, she also had an extreme life.
Her contributions to the music world will never be forgotten. She was one of the most talented people of our time.
